The 8th edition of the 2006 Concours Envol et Macadam will take place of February 1 at May 21, 2006.
Envol et Macadam is a non-profit organization founded in 1996 and managed by a Board of Directors made up of seven volunteer workers. The organization produces the Envol et Macadam festival, which is held in the month of September of every year, as well as the Concours Envol et Macadam. Its work team consists To offer activities and services that support new musical talent in the Quebec Province; to favor the coexistence of emerging new music and the alternative music scene professionals.
Since 1999, Envol et Macadam has been organizing from February until May the Concours Envol et Macadam, showcasing talent in new musical trends (alternative rock, metal, ska, punk, etc.)
This contest, which occurs in eight Quebec regions (Quebec City, Montreal, Estrie, Mauricie-Bois-Francs, Centre-du-Québec, Bas St-Laurent, Chaudières-Appalaches, Laurentides), allows new young talented musicians to play on-stage in a professional environment and gain stage and studio experience while benefiting from well-organized training. It is devoted to young amateur musicians who have never made a record with an industry-known record company and who wish to start a professional career. The winners of the contest get the chance to be the opening act for a well-known band featured at the Envol et Macadam festival, they get free hours at Studio New Rock, price money, a customized Web page, musical instruments, and more, as well as professional service.
Over the years, more and more artists have entered the contest. The amount of talent found in the new alternative music scene is amazing. Furthermore, the shows featured in the festival’s rock component are very successful and their success shows the extent to which the public supports new Quebec bands.
For the 2006 edition of the Concours Envol et Macadam, the organizers decided to improve the rock component by promoting it even more and by adding new preliminaries before the grand finale and inviting a headliner to perform on stage in eight cities. The goal is to give participants and sponsors more visibility, especially by associating ourselves with new media partners like Musique Plus and CHOI-FM. Starting next spring, the contest can take a new path. Thanks to this event and to its partners support, our organization will keep fulfilling its obligations to promote and broadcast fresh new musical talent by allowing these artists to enter the music industry with good visibility and work in a professional production environment.
