5 fois 5 is a project for training and promoting a wave of British Columbia francophone musical artists. This
project aims to welcome a delegation of trainers from the Quebec region (Canada) to produce a concert of original
songs, which will include five singers from BC.
The outcome of this project will be a series of 5 concerts to be put on in the Whistler-Vancouver corridor,
presented to audiences as part of the celebration of the Cultural Olympics in 2008. For this occasion, one
show is scheduled to be performed in the city of Vancouver with the band Les Trois Accords, one in
Coquitlam/Maillardville and one in Whistler. The groups selected will also be produced in a sixth concert
in Quebec on 2 March 2008. Two additional concerts will also be presented in schools in Vancouver and
surrounding areas.
5X5 Artists
Josée Allard
Singer-songwriter Josée Allard, grew up in British Columbia where she
started singing and composing songs at 10 years old. Largely influenced
by Jewel and Sarah McLachlan, the ability to entertain a French or English
audience is what sets apart this talented young redhead. Josée has opened
for famous Quebecois artists Jean Leloup and Diane Dufresne, and has
worked with many professional francophone musicians.
Marie-France
Marie France has lived in Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes, but from now
on she has decided to settle down in BC. After winning the song Gala in 2005
as a composer, she decided to express herself through music by writing her
own songs. Through her words, Marie France opens up her universe where
we can share her experiences, her dreams and her passion!
Saint-Pierre
Originally from Quebec, singer, composer songwriter Saint-Pierre has been
making music since the nineties. In 2006 he won the following awards at
the Pacifique en chanson competition: Fan’s Choice award, the Press award,
Best Song for his title “Je suis comme toutes les femmes”, along with the Marie
Woolridge prize. This success opened the doors for him at the Winnipeg
Chant’Ouest competition, where he won the Prix Mercure.
Samuel Sixto
Hailing from Switzerland, Samuel learned to play piano at a young age and went on
to study music professionally at the Jacques-Dalcroze Institute in Switzerland. Before
long he had chosen voice as his instrument. He has accompanied various artists including
Alain Morisod, Jewel Staite and Kim Kuzma and also performs his own songs.
Wintermitts
Five musicians, Lise Monique, David Thomas Manzl, Shane McMillan,
Christian Chaumont and Swann Barrat, form a group in which each member
makes a unique and subtle contribution to a rich musical blend. Their lyrics
successfully weave in melodious ballads with accordion accompaniment and
Canadian folk music with a hint of rock. An irresistible mix that makes this
group so unusual and so easy to love!
Les Trois Accords in concert
Les Trois Accords, you just can’t help loving them! With hits like Hawaiienne and Loin
d’ici they won the hearts of a devoted following and their new album Grand Champion
international de course is bound to be just as popular with their fans. Their music is
still just as wildly melodic and their lyrics are both polished and... absurd. The opening
numbers of this event will also be your chance to discover the young artists who have
been chosen for the 5X5. This is a concert you simply cannot miss out on!
The group came together in 1997 with Simon Proulx (guitar and vocal) and Olivier Benoît
(vocal), and before long they were joined by Alexandre Parr (guitar), Charles Dubreuil
(drums) and Pierre-Luc Boisvert (bass). They came into the limelight with their album
Gros Mammouth, which was a huge hit. Their dynamic stage performances took them to
the Live 8 in Toronto. Big concerts followed, with audiences of over 50,000 people at the
Quebec summer festival and Woodstock in Beauce in particular. Performances followed
one after another and with them, recognition from audiences and professionals alike.
The group covered the opening of the Rolling Stones concerts in Ottawa and Moncton.
So don’t think twice, come out for the Trois Accords and enjoy the frenzy. Les Trois
Accords also appeared for the first time in Vancouver in 2004 to a sold-out audience at
the 17th season of the Festival d’été francophone.
