Former members of Secteur A, Ben J, Jacky Brown, and Djamatik created a band called Neg Marrons to develop their own style based on ragga music. Their first single, “La monnaie”, was on the soundtrack of “Raï”, a movie directed by Thomas Gilou.

Their first album “Rue Case Nègres” (1997) is a reference to a classic novel written by Joseph Zobel, which became a movie in 1983, filmed by Euzhan Palcy. Creole culture and African roots (Cap Verde, Congo) are present on all their records: “Le bilan” (2000), and “Héritage” (2003) recorded in Kingstown.

With the fourth album “Les liens sacrés” (2008), Neg Marrons, who participated in many collective projects (Bisso na Bisso, Urban Peace, Noyau Dur), have several featurings with Cesaria Evora, Admiral T, Faya D, or Sly & Robbie. This reggae-dancehall music record is a collection of pearls: Jacky and Ben J propose powerful texts against precariousness and exclusion. Neg Marrons are also activists against AIDS or for the solidarity of ghettos’ residents. An excellent album and a beautiful career.
