Francophone concerts and festivals
For the first concert "Nouvelle Scène" of the year, Le Centre culturel francophone de Vancouver will host Jou Tou.
Just imagine Quebec, China and South America all brought together on one Vancouver stage for a very colourful concert. Jou Tou is a very special group with a unique sound and lively compositions that are an eclectic and surprising blend of musical traditions played on many different instruments.
The group is composed of Qiu Xia He (China), who plays the pipa with a magical touch; André Thibault (Canada), a multi-instrumentalist, master of Latin guitar, percussion instruments, the Shanaii and Indian flute and Pepe Danza (Uruguay), a virtuoso performer on guitar, sitar, the shakuhachi and flute, and one of Canada’s most sought after percussionists.
Over the past 15 years, these three uncommonly gifted musicians have participated in creating a unique World Music scene on Canada’s West Coast. As performers in the groups Silk Road, Asza, and Cordes en Folie, the musicians of JouTou have been awarded many prizes, including the prestigious West Coast Music Award in the category of World Music album and they have been nominated for a Juno award. They have been featured on several major broadcasts on CBC, CTV and VTV and have done many radio performances.
These musicians bring us a performance of the best of each of their musical traditions. This will be a musical tour you simply cannot miss out on!
